Forget Critics! Here are 7 reasons Bollywood needs more movies like Babumoshai Bandookbaaz

1. BOX OFFICE PROFIT
Money really matters. Hence, we’re beginning with money matters first — Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has tucked in 10 crores within 5 days. And the producers have not just recovered the production cost, but also reaped profits within such a less span. For the uninitiated, this year even Salman Khan (Tubelight) and Shah Rukh Khan’s films (Jab Harry Met Sejal) have not earned any profit. Whereas Babumoshai is listed as one of the profit earners of 2017.

2. NAWAZUDDIN'S FIRST SOLO HIT

That Nawazuddin is a gem, is something every film lover knows and accepts. Hitherto, Nawaz has added his midas touch to many big films, which have struck gold at the Box Office. But many of those films were multi-starrers, and some even had names like Aamir, Salman and SRK in them. But Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is Nawazuddin’s first solo hit. And we love this fact. He’s one actor who sinks so deep into his character that it’s sometimes impossible to detach him from the roles he plays. Cheers to the actor who owns his job and the success of his film too.

3. SCRIPT and SCREENPLAY

Watching Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is like flipping through the pages of a novel. The protagonist, a contract killer with his own swag, is a sincere worker, who deservingly takes his paycheque and delivers perfect work in return. He has love interests, sexual desires, and he swims through his life with some humour too. The movie ends, and it feels like we finished reading the book. This aspirational noir is something we need more of – enter into the personal world of a criminal and take an exit after knowing him thoroughly.

4. DIALOGUES

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is one film that will be remembered for its dialogues. “Sir,aap engineer hain? Nahin, hum outsourcing kartey hain…. yamraaj ke liye,” says Nawaz and boom – he starts firing and killing. This, and a lot more dialogues are those you would want to use while being sarcastic in your daily life. And when you have Nawaz speak them, it’s like whipped cream on top of a sponge vanilla cake.

5. AUTHENTIC SCENES

For a change, the intimate sequences in a Bollywood masala did not look forced and all those steamy scenes in this noir felt like they were very much the ‘demand of the script’, and not like those ‘imposed hot item numbers’ in films that don’t gel with the story at all. Babumoshai’s sexual escapades looked genuine.

6.PROFESSIONL CAST

“I took complete charge of the sex scenes. Director Kushan Nandy was not too happy with the way they were shot, but was not saying anything. I asked him if he wants to re-shoot and he nodded. We shot the scenes again in pure rustic style,” said Bidita Bag, the Bengali beauty who played the lead actress and proved yet again that one needs more than just fair skin to be an actress of substance. Bidita gave tough competition to Nawaz’s performance, despite being a fairly new face in Bollywood.

7. FIGHTING PRIVACY

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is one those few small budget films that fought piracy like a boss. Piracy has become such widespread in Bollywood that in the last one year, that only a day ahead of the film’s release, it is leaked online. But despite this crime, Babumoshai has fared well, and that’s a victory for Bollywood.
